2010 MIS Competition Summary
As with any year, the lead up to competition was intense. The team worked through the nights to ensure that the car would perform to its full potential at competition. At last, final preparations for static events were completed, the bodywork was on, and the truck was packed. The team got into Motel 6 in Jackson in good time and rested up before hitting the track the next day. Wednesday at competition consisted of a few final preparations and waiting for our turn through tech inspection. Thursday consisted of weigh in first thing in the morning, cost evaluation, tech inspection, the sales event, design, fuel, tilt, noise, and brakes. Weigh in and cost went smoothly and technical inspection was passed on the first shot with no problems. The sales event went well with a 32nd overall finish. Design preliminaries went well with a good reaction from the judges, and later that day, Queen’s was announced as one of 14 semifinalists! The team was extremely excited by this and enjoyed the chance to interact a lot more with the judges during semifinals. The end result was a tied-for-4th place finish in the design event!
Friday went smoothly with a great performance in the driver’s seat from Adam Allore and Justin Huneault, with a 0-75m acceleration time of 4.4s and a skidpad time of 5.5s. Dan Chown and Carlos Campos managed a fastest time of 72.0s in autocross, putting the team in 28th place and in the fast endurance heat for Saturday. Come Saturday afternoon, Carlos and Dan lit up the track with a blaze to the finish passing a total of 8 cars and netting an 11th place finish in Endurance. The team was extremely happy to place 16th overall out of 120 teams, 1st of 16 teams in Canada, and deliver the best result ever for Queen’s!
The team would like to thank all of their sponsors, supporters, and alumni who were there for the team. This would not have been possible without you. The Queen’s car will also be travelling to Formula Student UK in July after undergoing a development and testing program in the coming weeks. Come out to see the Queen’s car at Spring Reunion for a driving demonstration behind Victoria hall on Saturday May 29 from 1pm to 2pm, or later this summer at the Canada Day and 1000 Islands Poker Run festivities. Check back soon for more updates!
